Wendy Williams Says She Loved Life ‘Just Me and My Cats’ After Kevin Hunter Divorce in 2020: It Was ‘a 100% Fabulous Thing’

Wendy Williams is embracing her independence after her divorce from Kevin Hunter.

In her first interview since revealing her diagnosis with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Williams, 60, joined The Breakfast Club on Jan. 16. Speaking from her treatment facility, she reflected on her life post-divorce.

“Getting divorced was a 100% fabulous thing for me,” Williams shared, discussing her 2019 split from Hunter after 21 years of marriage. “I moved to New York, left New Jersey behind, and it was just me and my cats.”

Williams added that her work on *The Wendy Williams Show* kept her occupied but wasn’t fulfilling. “Being on TV was about money, but radio has always been my passion,” she said. “Radio felt like a Godsend.”

Williams finalized her divorce from Hunter in 2020. The former couple, who married in 1997, share a son, Kevin Jr. Their relationship ended after Williams alleged Hunter fathered a child with another woman—a claim Hunter never confirmed but publicly apologized for “some wrongs.”

“Thank you to everyone for respecting the family’s privacy during this time. Kevin is supportive of Wendy, and they are working through this process together,” a representative said following their split.

In 2022, Williams was placed under court-ordered guardianship after Wells Fargo froze her accounts, citing concerns about her mental health. New York attorney Sabrina Morrissey was appointed as her legal guardian. However, Williams’ family has criticized the guardianship, saying it has distanced them from her.

Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, revealed that Williams has been isolated due to the guardianship. “She can call us, but we can’t call her. She spends all day in one room without proper sunlight,” Finnie shared during *The Breakfast Club* interview.

Williams also discussed her health challenges, acknowledging the impact of her diagnosis. Morrissey previously stated in court that Williams is “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated” due to progressive dementia.

“This system is broken,” Williams said. “It has falsified so much. But this is my reality now.”

Despite these challenges, Williams remains resilient. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “I’ve learned to adapt. My past doesn’t define me.”

Williams continues to prioritize her well-being and focus on her future, embracing her independence while navigating the complexities of her health.
