Barron Trump: All About Donald Trump’s Youngest Son

Donald Trump’s youngest child, Barron, spent part of his childhood in the White House yet managed to stay mostly under the radar.

Not long after Donald married his wife Melania in 2005, the pair found out they were expecting their first child together. Barron arrived on March 20, 2006, as Donald’s fifth child and Melania’s only son.

Barron spent his early years at the family’s lavish penthouse in New York City, attending high-end private schools on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. When Donald took office in January 2017, Melania and Barron remained in Manhattan temporarily so Barron could complete his school year. That summer, he enrolled in St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Maryland, then joined the family at the White House.

Although Donald’s older children—Ivanka, Donald Jr., Eric, and Tiffany—played more visible roles during his presidency, Barron was shielded from public view.

Amid Donald’s 2024 run for president, Barron also continued to lead a relatively private life. He declined an invitation to act as an at-large delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention due to “previous commitments,” as relayed by Melania. However, in July of that year, Barron made his first appearance at a campaign rally to support his father. After Donald beat Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Barron stood on stage at Donald’s victory event as the president-elect thanked his children.

In May 2024, Barron graduated from high school. By September, he had enrolled at New York University. Even though he’s living at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, Melania confirmed in January 2025 that Barron would keep a room at the White House for visits, following his father’s inauguration.

Below is a closer look at Donald and Melania Trump’s son Barron.

Donald was taken by surprise upon learning Melania was pregnant

In 2005, Donald and Melania learned they would have a baby roughly six months into their marriage. When Melania told Donald the news, he was initially taken aback.

“He came home one day last August, and I told him he was going to be a father,” Melania recalled. “He needed a moment to process it. It was definitely a surprise, but then he was very happy.”

Donald added that while he expected they would have children eventually, he didn’t realize it would happen so quickly.

He was born in March 2006

Barron was born on March 20, 2006. Donald was not inside the delivery room, explaining he felt it would be easier for Melania without him present. In the end, Melania said her eight-hour labor turned out to be “very, very easy.”

“Everyone’s doing great. She’s very happy, and it’s terrific,” Donald remarked after the birth.

Donald chose the name Barron. Though he’d always liked it, he never had the chance to use it for his older children. Melania approved, but he nearly changed his mind at the last moment—something Melania dismissed, given she’d already been calling the baby Barron throughout her pregnancy.

“It’s a name I always loved but never quite dared to use,” Donald revealed during a past TV interview. “Then I gave the idea to Melania, but was going to withdraw it right before he was born, which she wouldn’t allow, since she’d been using it the whole time he was in her belly!”

He studied in New York, Maryland, and Florida

During his New York childhood, Barron attended Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on the Upper West Side. After Donald’s inauguration in January 2017, Barron finished that school year in Manhattan.

During his final year at Columbia Grammar, Barron invited his fifth-grade classmates—about 80 of them—to visit Washington, D.C. They met Donald, toured the city, and spent a night at a hotel before heading back to New York.

In May 2017, the family announced Barron would attend St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

St. Andrew’s tuition was around $40,000 a year. It broke the pattern established by prior presidential families—the Obamas, Bushes, and Clintons—who enrolled their children at the private Quaker institution Sidwell Friends.

Once Donald’s presidency ended in 2021, it emerged that Barron would go to the Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, where he graduated in 2024.

He felt apprehensive about moving to the White House at first

At the outset of Donald’s presidency, he mentioned that Barron felt uneasy about leaving his life in Manhattan to settle at the White House, highlighting that Barron loved his hometown and close-knit school environment.

“He’s got a great school in New York and plenty of good friends,” Donald said. “But I also told him that by me taking this role, it would help a lot of people and kids like him, and that notion excited him. He’s a strong, smart 9-year-old who understands more than you’d think.”

Former first daughters Chelsea Clinton and Jenna Bush Hager spoke up for him

When Donald was in office, Barron occasionally faced harsh remarks on social media.

Chelsea Clinton, herself a former first daughter, publicly stood up for Barron and encouraged people to allow him a normal childhood free from scrutiny.

“It’s well past time the media and everyone else let Barron be a kid,” she wrote on Twitter, urging others to leave him out of public feuds.

Jenna Bush Hager also criticized the negative comments directed at Barron, pointing out that he had nothing to do with his father’s presidential ambitions and should not be targeted.

He speaks both English and Slovenian

Barron is bilingual, speaking both English and Melania’s native Slovenian. As a young child, he often conversed with his maternal grandmother in Slovenian. While Melania encouraged him to learn multiple languages, she expressed that once in the United States, she and Donald agreed English should be the primary language for public use.

“My view is that the more languages you speak, the better,” she said. “But when you’re in America, you speak English.”

Melania keeps a close watch on him

Even before becoming First Lady, Melania tended to be reserved and stayed close to family. Once Donald left office, insiders noted she remained private and continued to be very protective of Barron.

“Melania’s close circle is primarily made up of relatives,” one source said in 2023. “She has never been a social butterfly at Mar-a-Lago. She prefers to focus on Barron and safeguard him. That’s always been her priority.”

The source also revealed that Melania’s parents moved to the family’s Mar-a-Lago property and had been “instrumental” in raising Barron. Melania’s mother, Amalija Knavs, passed away in January 2024.

In March 2024, another insider described Melania’s primary role as “looking after Barron,” emphasizing that he’s a reserved teen and she’s done everything she can to support him.

“Barron is shy and quiet, and she’s always been a very attentive mother,” the source said. “Besides some charitable efforts, her main focus is her family.”

Donald claims Barron is about 6 feet, 7 inches tall

In January 2024, while speaking at his presidential campaign headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, Donald shared that Barron stands at a towering 6-foot-7. He joked that Barron’s height was likely due to all the homemade food Melania’s late mother used to prepare for him.

In remarks reported by The Daily Mail, Donald called Barron “a special boy” and laughed about trying to persuade him to pick basketball over soccer, saying Barron stuck to his own preference.

“You’re really popular—maybe more than Don Jr. and Eric,” Donald joked. “Barron’s had such a peaceful life, and now things are shifting a bit.”

He’s currently enrolled at New York University

On September 4, 2024, security staff confirmed Barron’s arrival at NYU in Manhattan. He was seen near the library with Secret Service agents.

That same month, Melania spoke with Fox News, explaining that Barron insisted on studying in New York and preferred to reside at Trump Tower.

“It was entirely his call to be here,” she said. “He wants to be in New York, attend school here, and live in his own home, and I respect that.”

She described Barron as “an incredible young man,” praising his kindness, intelligence, and strength.

In December 2024, a source revealed that Barron had become “pretty popular with the girls” on campus, noting that his height and looks have drawn attention even from those who are not politically aligned with his family.

“He’s tall and attractive—people notice,” the insider said. “Yes, even those who are more liberal think he’s good-looking.”
