Céline Dion Pays Tribute to Late Husband René Angélil on What Would Be His 83rd Birthday: ‘You Are a Part of Us Every Day’

Céline Dion is reflecting on cherished moments with her late husband, René Angélil.

In an emotional Instagram post shared on Jan. 16, the renowned singer honored what would have been her husband’s 83rd birthday.

Dion and Angélil, her former manager, were married for over two decades until his passing in 2016 due to throat cancer.

“Today marks your birthday, but the exact date doesn’t matter, as we celebrate life with you every day,” Dion expressed alongside a touching black and white photo of Angélil. “You are forever a part of us through the beautiful memories we treasure.”

“As we revisit years of photos and videos that keep you alive in our hearts, we hear your voice, see your gestures, and adore your spirit,” she added. “We celebrate you always. Happy Birthday, René, our love.”

Signing off, Dion wrote, “Céline, RC, Nelson, and Eddy xx,” referring to herself and the three children they shared: René-Charles, born in 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, born in 2010.

A couple of days earlier, Dion had shared another Instagram post in honor of her husband’s memory, marking the anniversary of his passing.

In the photo, Dion and her children coordinated in soft neutral hues as they sat in a warmly decorated outdoor setting.

“René, we can hardly believe it has been nine years since you left us,” Dion wrote. “Not a single day goes by without your presence in our hearts, RC, Eddy, Nelson, and I.”

“You were my biggest supporter, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me. We miss you so much, mon amour… We love you – Céline xx…” she concluded.

Dion and Angélil would have marked their 30th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17.

The singer was only 12 years old when they began their professional relationship, which evolved into romance when Dion turned 19. They announced their engagement in 1993 and were married the following year. Throughout their marriage, Dion took breaks from her career to care for Angélil during his multiple battles with cancer.

Since Angélil’s passing, Dion has faced her own health struggles. In December 2022, she disclosed being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes severe muscle stiffness and spasms.

In July 2024, she made her return to the stage during the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. At the end of the year, Dion shared her hopes and aspirations for the future in an uplifting Instagram post, looking forward to endless possibilities in 2025.
